Investments
Record shares, ETFs, bonds or crypto by hand, update their prices and see value, gain and allocation
Keep track of what you hold at a broker — shares, ETFs, bonds, crypto — next to the rest of your money. You enter the holdings and their prices yourself; CaliMoney works out their value, your gain or loss and how your money is split, and counts them in your net worth.
Values and gains come from the prices you enter. CaliMoney keeps a record — it gives no financial advice and fetches no prices.
How to start
- In Settings → Accounts, tap Add account and pick the kind Investments (for example Broker).
- In Opening balance, type the cash sitting in that account, if any (0 is fine), and save.
- Tap More in the bottom bar, then Investments (it appears once you have an investment account), or tap the account and then Holdings.
How to add a holding
- On Investments, tap Add holding under the account.
- Fill three fields: Name or ticker (for example VWCE), Quantity (fractions are fine:
0.0153; write thousands without a separator,1500) and Total cost — what you paid in total. - Tap Add holding.
The price per unit is worked out for you. Adding a holding records something you already own: its value is added to the account.
How to update prices
- Tap Update prices under the account.
- Every holding is listed with its current price already filled in. Change the ones that moved — a price you leave as it is still counts as checked today.
- Tap Save prices.
Each holding shows the date of its price (Price of 30 Sep 2026); after 30 days it turns amber.
How to record a buy or a sale
- Tap the holding, then Buy or Sell.
- Type the units and the total paid or received, then save.
A buy is paid from the account's cash, and a sale's money goes back to it — the Cash line under the holdings shows what's left. If you pay for a buy from your bank, record a transfer into the investment account first. The price of the trade becomes the holding's price. Selling every unit removes the holding.
To take out a holding you entered by mistake, tap it, then Remove and tap again to confirm.
Reading the page
- Each account shows its total value (holdings plus cash) and its overall gain or loss.
- Each holding shows its value, units × price, and its gain or loss as an amount and a percentage, with an arrow — green up, red down. The gain is the value minus what you paid; after a partial sale the cost is reduced in proportion (average cost).
- Allocation shows how your holdings split, across all investment accounts, as one bar: the five largest, then Other. Holdings in another currency are converted into your display currency.
How it counts in your balance and net worth
Every change in value — adding or removing a holding, new prices, the price of a buy or sale — is recorded as a balance adjustment on the investment account, labelled Price update, Bought VWCE and so on. That keeps the account's balance, your net worth and its history right month by month. Adjustments never count as income or spending.
Offline, encryption and hidden mode
The page works offline, like the rest of the app. With encryption on, your holdings are encrypted with the account. In Hidden mode amounts, prices and quantities are masked and gains are hidden; the allocation percentages stay, since they reveal no amount, and nothing is pre-filled in the price form.
