How to find forgotten subscriptions
Streaming, apps, gym, cloud storage: how to uncover the subscriptions you pay without noticing, starting from recurring charges on your statement, and how to keep them in check.
A few euros a month go unnoticed — until ten of them add up. A free trial never cancelled, a cloud plan that doubled, January's gym: forgotten subscriptions are among the easiest costs to cut, because they buy you nothing.
Where to look
- Bank and card statements: look for charges with the same amount at regular intervals — weekly, monthly, yearly.
- Your phone's store: the App Store and Google Play have a Subscriptions page listing everything billed through them.
- PayPal and similar: check the automatic payments you've authorised.
- Email: search for "renewal", "subscription", "your plan".
Yearly charges are the sneakiest: they arrive once and are forgotten by the next year.
Let the app find them
If you record or import your movements in CaliMoney, the app looks for repeating series on its own: same description, same amount, on a weekly, biweekly, monthly or yearly rhythm. You'll find them in Settings → Recurring, in the Possible recurring movements card.
For each one you can:
- turn it into a recurring movement, so upcoming charges appear on their own and the month-end forecast counts them;
- dismiss it, if it isn't a subscription.
The analysis runs on your device: your movements aren't sent anywhere to find them.
Decide what to keep
For each subscription ask: did I use it last month? Would I sign up again today at this price? If not, cancel now — not "from next month".
Keep them in check
- Group subscriptions in their own category and give it a monthly budget.
- Record yearly renewals as recurring movements: you'll get a reminder before the charge.
